    • Am I utilizing my instruments?
    • Which software should i update first?
    • ...
  • You can show it to others
  • Identifies important components
  • Removes the mental strain of remembering everything

  • Non-compliance is fine, but know in what way

So what's this "gap" about?

  • Its kinda not a "gap" at all!
  • Time-span of these are ~years-decades, not months
  • Project overhead is not linear!
    1. Consider the following: you manage reports

    2. Report stakeholders want weekly updates
    3. Context switching & time bookkeeping
    4. Each report takes 35h to finish + 5h overhead / week
    5. Working on 1 report per week = 1 report delivered per 1 week

      Working on 5 reports per week = 5 reports delivered per 23 weeks

    I optimized with task-manager [pter], did auto-pilot schedule
    crammed meetings, wrote notes and wikis...

    But the influx was too great

What is productivity?

  • Time spent at a desk? Papers? h-index?
    Number of students? Societal impact?
  • We don't really know
    "Its a feeling when you look at a chunk of a career"
  • People deemed productive seem to
    1. Do less things at once
    2. Work at a natural pace
    3. Obsess over quality

  • Tip: Go from push to pull
  • Tip: Time is valuable, treat it that way
